What Welsh Government guidance is provided to GP practices regarding charging patients for accessing their medical records?
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 02/05/2025
The General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act 2018 were made by the UK government and apply to the four nations of the UK. GP practices cannot charge patients for reasonable access to their medical record. Guidance for GPs has been issued by the BMA to help practices in understanding their statutory obligations. bma-access-to-health-records-nov-19.pdf
