What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with home educators about aspects of the UK Government's Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill which apply to Wales?
The Welsh government has undertaken extensive consultation in recent years in relation to elective home education and children missing education policy, which has informed the Welsh Ministers’ position on this Bill. The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill includes several aspects that will enhance and complement Welsh Government policy and also ensure that local authorities can undertake their safeguarding and welfare duties.
Subject to the Bill being enacted following the relevant legislative consent processes in the Senedd, the ‘Children Not In School’ provisions of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill would be brought into force in Wales by Welsh Ministers, on a date to be decided by Welsh Ministers.
