What assessment has the Cabinet Secretary made of the suitability of agricultural land on the coast for tree planting?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 03/05/2024

We have not made an assessment of the suitability of agricultural land in coastal areas for tree planting, as it is possible to plant the majority of these areas if careful consideration is given to tree species suited to the conditions. Natural Resources Wales provide free pre-application advice that highlights any constraints to tree planting. Welsh Government also provides funding via the Woodland Creation Planning Scheme for professional advice on determining what species and density would be appropriate for individual sites.
