What plans does Welsh Government have to support refugees and those with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) in Wales to avoid people being evicted into homelessness in the coming weeks?

Answered by Minister for Housing and Local Government | Answered on 21/07/2020

The Welsh Government has issued a range of guidance to support local authorities and third sector providers in accommodating and supporting individuals in emergency accommodation. This includes clear guidance that no-one should be left on the streets during this pandemic, including those who have no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

Local authorities have therefore been able to access the £10 million funding announced by Welsh Government in March, to provide shelter and support to those who have no recourse to public funds.

We remain in a public health emergency and therefore continue to advise local authorities to use alternative powers and funding to assist all those who require shelter and other forms of support, regardless of their immigration status.

The UK Government position on those with no recourse to public funds however remains unchanged. Welsh Government has written to the UK Government regarding changes required to the legislative framework to ensure everyone can access the public services they need.
