Further to his reply to WAQs 79873 - 79874, will the Minister provide the number of new ventilators acquired and not distributed across Wales, as well as outline what they will be used for should they not be distributed?

The numbers distributed to each health board varies based on their baseline provision, population size and the impact COVID has had on their capacity.

The 180 dual purpose ventilators were purchased directly by NHS Shared Services Partnership, and the invasive and non-invasive ventilators have been supplied via UK arrangements. In addition, 2 anaesthetic machines have been received via UK arrangements.

All equipment including ventilators received via UK arrangements is on loan at no cost to Welsh Government. Any ventilators not required by the NHS in Wales, via the UK arrangements, are likely to be returned so they can be redistributed.

Currently there are 102 mechanical ventilators not distributed which have been received via UK arrangements and a significant number of these are either transport ventilators which are not required at this time or models not usually used within critical care units within Wales. There is work currently being undertaken to consider any potential future use. In addition, there are 67 non-invasive ventilators, again via UK arrangements, which are being held as these are in addition to current health board requirements. Discussions are taking place about whether these are likely to be required in the future.
