Further to the publication of the report by the Unadopted Roads Taskforce, what action has been taken by the Welsh Government in response to the recommendations to address the impact of poorly maintained unadopted roads on homeowners across Wales?

I can confirm that the Group has been implementing the recommendations. A separate working group has been established to develop a set of highway design and construction Common Standards for use by local authorities and housing developers for adoptable roadways. This work is progressing well.

A Good Practice Guide for local authorities and house builders to significantly reduce the chances of any new housing estate roads ending up in an unadopted state, has also been completed. This guide is currently on trial with local authorities.

Work is ongoing to establish a database to provide a comprehensive record of all unadopted roads in Wales, which could be used to provide cost estimates for improving unadopted roads to reasonable adoptable standards. This exercise is nearing completion and its findings are expected to be available shortly.

Officials are also considering how the work of this Task Force overlaps with other initiatives being taken forward with regard to estate roads such as open spaces and leasehold arrangements.
