What consideration has the Welsh Government given to the banning of snares in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs | Answered on 23/12/2019

There are already legislative provisions which regulate the use of snares in Wales, including those under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Since the publication of the updated Code of Best Practice on the Use of Snares in Fox Control on 25 September 2015, Welsh Government officials have regularly met with stakeholders, who have been asked to provide robust and tangible evidence on snaring practice in Wales. Officials are continuing to consider all the evidence provided at these annual meetings and are an important part of the ongoing process to determine the effectiveness of the Code and whether further measures, including legislative options should be considered.
