Following the announcement that teenage boys will receive the HPV vaccine, when will this recommendation be implemented and will there be a catch-up programme for boys replicating the one available for girls, so any boy in years 8, 9, 10 and 11 can be vaccinated?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 23/08/2018

Subject to confirmation of sufficient vaccine availability, the working assumption is that the HPV vaccine will be provided to boys in the 2019/20 academic year. Officials and health professionals are considering the merit of a catch up campaign and a recommendation will be made in due course.
