OPIN-2025-0474 Retail Industry’s Voluntary Guidelines for the Responsible Selling of Disposable BBQs During Extreme Heat Events

This Senedd:
1. Commends the Welsh and British Retail Consortiums for their voluntary guidelines on the responsible sale of disposable BBQs during extreme heat events (EHEs).
2. Welcomes this initiative which has been developed for shopkeepers in partnership with stakeholders.
3. Notes the purpose is to encourage shops to better advise on the responsible use and disposal of single-use BBQs, prevent wildfires, encourage collaboration between stakeholders when EHEs occur, and encourages all retailers to adopt the guidelines.
4. Notes that retailers are committed to customer safety, and in the case of extreme wildfire warnings, would adhere to guidelines and withdraw disposable barbeques from sale.
