Questions For - First Minister
What discussions has the First Minister had with the UK Government regarding the Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway?
We support the ambitions of the Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway company to improve connectivity between north-east Wales and London. The Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales will be meeting with the company soon to discuss their proposals and how they can be integrated into Network North Wales.
What discussions has the First Minister had with the UK Government regarding the effect of their policies on poverty levels in Wales?
We are in regular contact with the UK Government on welfare issues and make our views clear on such policies as the two-child limit and winter fuel payment. In fact, I'm meeting the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions tomorrow to discuss the Green Paper.
What discussions has the Welsh Government had with police forces regarding their use of strip searches on children?
We regularly discuss this with police forces in Wales. It is unacceptable to have unnecessary strip searches, especially on children. They should only be undertaken when they are absolutely necessary, without bias and aligned with the necessary safeguards.
How is the Welsh Government's child poverty strategy supporting children and families in Rhondda?
The child poverty strategy sets out our ambitions for tackling child poverty across Wales, including in the Rhondda, outlining how we are working across Government and with partners to maximise the impact of the levers and powers available to us here in Wales.
