Questions For - Counsel General
What consideration has the Counsel General given to referring any of the Senedd reform bills to the Supreme Court to ensure they fall within the competence of the Senedd?
I considered whether the Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Bill should be referred once the Bill was passed, as I do with all Bills, and I concluded it was not necessary. The Senedd Cymru (Electoral Candidate Lists) Bill is currently at stage 1, so this is not the moment to undertake that consideration.
What assessment has the Counsel General made of the impact that the requirement for voter ID will have on the forthcoming general election in Wales?
The 4 July election will be the largest UK election requiring voter ID, which has had a negative impact on our democracy by disengaging and disenfranchising voters. We are focusing on increasing participation and will never introduce voter ID requirements to devolved elections.
