NDM9351 - Opposition Debate
Tabled on 04/11/2026 | For debate on 11/11/2026To propose that the Senedd:
1. Recognises the service, commitment and sacrifice of those who currently serve and those who have served in the Armed Forces.
2. Acknowledges the valuable contribution that the defence sector makes in supporting Wales's economy, providing skilled employment and keeping the country safe.
3. Calls on the Welsh Government to:
a) adopt the Armed Forces Covenant, embedding its principles across all devolved policy areas, ensuring accountability for its implementation;
b) prioritise veterans for social housing;
c) strengthen support for veterans transitioning into civilian employment; and
d) support the continued presence and development of Armed Forces facilities and defence establishments in Wales.
Amendments
Delete all after point 1 and replace with:
Recognises the contribution of the defence sector to jobs, skills, innovation and productivity growth in Wales.
Recognises the Welsh Government’s Programme for Government commitment to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and work across public services to improve support for veterans and their families.
Further recognises the commitment of local authorities across Wales to the Armed Forces Covenant and that the Covenant includes a commitment to ensure that serving personnel, veterans and their families are fairly supported in accessing housing.
