How many fines have been imposed on parents for unauthorised school absences in each local authority in each year since 2015/16?

Answered by Minister for Education | Answered on 26/03/2019

The information requested is set out below and should be considered in the context of individual local authority’s code of conduct

To inform wider work in this area an independent evaluation of the use of fixed penalty notices (FPNs) was published in May 2018.  The findings of this evaluation are being used to inform the broader review of attendance policy that is currently underway.   We intend to publish revised school attendance guidance for consultation in 2019; this will include revised guidance on FPNs.
