Will the Minister provide details of any existing primary schools in Wales that have been provided with 21st Century Schools funding whose overall site area, building space or parking provision is below the recommendations set out in Building Bulletin 99?

Answered by Minister for Education | Answered on 27/03/2019

To ensure equity of funding and that our new schools are built to a consistent standard across Wales, the Welsh Government advises their delivery partners in the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme to design schools according to the maximum of Building Bulletin 99.

In addition, when local authorities apply for funding for new schools from the Welsh Government, our contribution is normally based on the cost of building to the maximum of the building bulletin size range.

Although we provide this advice through our guidance, the decision on school size ultimately rests with the local authority, and can be affected by local policy and funding arrangements.

We do not routinely collect this information in respect of individual schools.
