Will the Minister make a statement on how many midwives there were in the NHS in Wales in each year since 2011, expressed on a (a) headcount and (b) full time equivalent basis?
Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) have provided the following information about midwifery education/training in Wales. The number of midwifery graduates for each university for each of the year 2011 – 2018.

Prior to 2014 information was not routinely collated about individuals employment destination post qualification. In subsequent year’s students, while graduates have been asked to provide this information but they are not obliged to do so. As a result the following information is not a complete data set. In addition, for 2018 HEIW has not yet recovered all of the data from universities across Wales.

In 2017 midwifery places increased by 43% but it is too early for this to be reflected in the table, we should see the difference in 2020.
