In December, the Scottish Government announced that interim access has been agreed for the cystic fibrosis medicines Orkambi and Symkevi, has the Minister had any further discussions on an agreement for a similar arrangement to take place in Wales?
The All Wales Medicine Strategy Group contacted Vertex Pharmaceuticals again in November 2018 but the company has still not submitted Orkambi® for appraisal. I understand that Vertex has agreed to submit Orkambi® for re-appraisal and Symkevi® for appraisal by the Scottish Medicines Consortium, and that clinicians will use the Scottish equivalent of our Individual Patient Funding Request process to access these medicines. The company has not extended the same proposal to the NHS in Wales.
