Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the work of the Welsh in education strategic plans advisory board, including the board’s remit, timetable and priorities?

Answered by Minister for Lifelong Learning and Welsh Language | Answered on 25/07/2018

The WESP Advisory Board was established in May, 2018.  Their remit is to advise on plans to strengthen the infrastructure supporting the planning of Welsh-medium education in line with the ambition of the Welsh language Strategy Cymraeg 2050: A million Welsh speakers.

The Board meets every 4-6 weeks and will be in operation until March 2019.  This timeframe can be extended as necessary.

The Board held their third meeting on the 12th July 2018 and their main focus to date has been on reforming the Welsh in Education Strategic Plans and Assessing Demand for Welsh Medium Education (Wales) Regulations 2013. Assembly members will be briefed at key stages throughout the process.
