How much did each Welsh Government department spend on ministerial cars in 2015-16. 2016-17 and 2017-18 to date, and how much of this cost was for journeys undertaken by civil servants when no Cabinet Secretary or Minister was present?
Official car costs are not recorded either by Department or individual journey. Any travel by civil servants in the official cars relates to their role in supporting Ministers while undertaking official engagements. The Permanent Secretary is entitled to the provision of a car for official business. The overall capital and running costs for the periods specified is shown below. The figures include vehicle purchase, maintenance, fuel charges, insurance, road tax, and breakdown cover. They also include the cost of private hire cars which are used when official cars are not available.
