Will the Cabinet Secretary clarify whether the pay and conditions of supply teachers will be within the remit of the Independent Task and Finish Group review, Teachers’ Pay and Conditions in Wales?
The statutory requirements for school teachers’ pay and conditions for maintained schools in Wales and England are set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
The remit of the Task & Finish Group will be to review the current arrangements within this statutory document, informing on the benefits and barriers of the current system and where specific policy consideration (including workload) should be given to secure improved educational outcomes for learners.
I expect the group to also look at areas not currently within the document, such as how it relates to the impact on the terms and conditions of teaching assistants, and supply teachers employed directly by maintained schools.
The Task & Finish Group will ensure that all those with a vested interest in Education in Wales, including teaching assistants and those organisations that represent the sector will still be afforded the ability to submit evidence.
