OPIN-2024-0394 Stop plans to criminalise homelessness (e) Tabled on 07/03/2024

This Senedd:
1. Believes no one should be criminalised for being homeless.
2. Expresses concern about proposals within the UK Government’s Criminal Justice Bill to introduce police powers in England and Wales to imprison and issue fines of up to £2,500 for people sleeping on the street.
3. Believes these proposals will push people experiencing homelessness away from support.
4. Supports calls from Crisis and other housing and homelessness organisations for the UK Government to drop these provisions.
5. Calls on the Welsh Government to do all it can to help stop these powers coming into force in Wales.
