OPIN-2019-0131 Opposing the Health and Care Professions Council’s plans to increase its registration fees by 18 per cent from October 2019. (e) Tabled on 05/06/2019

This Assembly:

1. Regrets that the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) plans to increase its registration fees by 18 per cent from October 2019.

2. Believes that this increase is effectively a tax on practicing, as those regulated by HCPC must pay this annual fee in order to work.

3. Notes that this affects a wide range of healthcare professionals, including 23,000 practitioner psychologists, with 800 of these practicing in Wales.

4. Regrets that the increase will mean HCPC fees rising by 40 per cent since 2014; an excessive & unreasonable increase.

5. Calls on HCPC to urgently reconsider this increase.
