OPIN-2019-0119 Recognising the value of convenience stores (e) Tabled on 08/01/2019

This Assembly:

1. Recognises the valuable role of convenience stores in providing a growing range of essential services, including bill payment services (in 67 percent of stores), free-to-use ATMs (48 percent) and Post Offices (29 percent), in cities, towns, local neighbourhoods and villages – where often they are the only available service - across Wales.

2. Welcomes the ACS (Association of Convenience Stores) Welsh Local Shop Report 2019 findings that there are 2923 local shops in Wales, 83 percent of which are operated by independent retailers, employing almost 23,000 people and investing a total of £44 million over the past year.
